Automata toys have existed for a very long time, and there are many different shapes and sizes of automatas. Any automata toy that you could think of could exist. This is because you can make them yourself and create whatever you want.
Safety Regulations
The automatas will be painted with acrylic paints and non toxic varnish. They are adult toys, meaning that they contain small parts and are therefore NOT suitable for very young children. The squeeze acrobats and falling toys are safe for older children to play with. However, none of my 'toys' should be left with toddlers. They are handmade traditional toys built carefully from wood, and not riveted together with breakable plastic parts.

Develop a Solution
In order to construct our cams to be easily altered we used parametric constraints. When or if a cam is needed to increase or decrease we could simply change the value of D which would increase the entire cam changing the scale of all dimensions.

Evaluate Solution
I showed our automata to my parents. At first they were confused by what it's function was and it's purpose. They asked why I created a caterpillar on top of box with a ton of cylinders connected to it. But once I showed them what happens when you turn the crank they were really amazed. They didn't know that I could create something like this in inventor. Also they liked how the caterpillar looked like the hungry caterpillar from the book. I told them about the axle, cams, followers and the pieces and how they correlate. They thought this was really cool that they all worked together. I asked them what things we should add to it to make it more appealing and fun for kids. My mom said we should of made them all be at the same angle, but I said that would not look as cool as what it looks like now. My dad said that it looked really good and the only thing he would change would be the colors of the box. If I had to change anything about our automata I would create something more challenging with hinges and horizontal movement. The reason we didn’t was because we didn’t have enough time to do so. Personnally I thought that this helped me a lot with my inventor skills. I learned new ways to constrain things to each other and how to make cams and use them in inventor. Overall I thought this project was one of the better projects and it will definitely help me in the long run.
